About Our Firm

The Burton Law Firm, based in Houston Texas, is a state wide practice committed to providing clients with personalized legal services in the area of family law, divorce, complex custody, child abuse, modification, and other matters.

In addition to his private practice, Tom Burton is also the General Counsel for Justice For Children, a national nonprofit that works to protect the rights of abused children; he has served in this capacity since 2004.

To me, the practice of law is an art, not a science  It is a service-based career which I have dedicated to solving my clients' most distressing problems.  While the principles of the law do not change between clients, no two cases are identical, and a customized approach is what I have found works best.  Working state-wide throughout Texas has given me a unique perspective on various local courts, and serving as in-house counsel for a national non-profit dealing with child abuse has sharpened my resolve to advocate for protective parents even at the risk of offending local judges.  I am absolutely invested in zealous advocacy for my clients, many of whom are embattled parents trying to protect their children in a child welfare system that can seem uncaring and unresponsive.
